We stopped here for a visit and just loved it.Such an amazing collection.My wife and I had an awesome tour that so well explained and great stories about all the hair art.See hair art from the 1800's and even some celebrity hair such as Elvis, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.Well worth the time.Very friendly staff and museum is very clean with plenty of parking.Recommend highly.

A bit weird but very touching. Rememberances of loved ones before photography. The work and hours put into these creations is astounding. Very glad I went. You will probably get a private tour.

Not a fancy museum. Just a relatively small place in a strip mall in Independence, but definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in quirky subects. The owner, Leila, has been collecting hair-related items since the 1950s, and her collection may be the largest in the world. Victorian hair wreaths line the walls and form the core of the collection -- with memorial brooches, watch fobs, celebrity snippets, and more rounding things out. When I was there in January, I was the only visitor in the place, and the docent gave me a personal tour, pointing out the most interesting aspects of pieces, explaning the different techniques, giving a history of hair art. Worth an hour of your time if you're in the area.

It's the only one of its kind i the Country. This type of art was popular in the 1800's. Prior to photography it served as a family tree. Many famous people are represented among the pictures. Very interesting place. The tour guide was very knowledgeable .

Chose to go to this museum as it was unusual. My sister in law and I didn't know what to expect. The tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable about the subject matter and answered our questions. Very interesting history about hair that I didn't know much about.

We visited Leilas Hair Museum because it sounded quirky and we were curious. Not only was it interesting but a good history lesson as well. There is so much significance to the hair weavings in terms of family histories. I highly recommend the tour and would not hesitate to go again with a new person to the museum.

I didn't know what to expect when we stopped in on a road trip to Kansas city. The tour guide was personable and very informative. The collection is really impressive! Once she explained that prior to having photographs these art pieces were how family members remembered and paid tribute to family. We also saw beautiful pieces that were wedding gifts! There is also a celebrity section with hair from Elvis Presley, JFK and several others! It is the only museum of hair art in the world! It is definitely worth a stop!!
